Girl About Town: The Corporate Diwali in Jersey City

Diwali or Deepvali is a Sanskirt word meaning “rows of lighted lamps.” It is one of the largest Indian festivals and comes from the Hindu traditions. It signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair (source: The Corporate Diwali).

At the Hoboken Museum’s annual fundraiser, I had the pleasure of meeting The Corporate Diwali, otherwise known as Manisha Mundhra Beriwala. Manisha is a whirlwind of light, which makes her perfectly suited to be the founder and CEO of this event company.

All That Glitters is Gold

As someone who isn’t South Asian, I understood Diwali as an outsider would. I understood the basic principles and loved everything about this holiday. To be able to have another opportunity to cleanse your spirit and focus on the new, the bright and the light? Who wouldn’t want that?

The best part about The Corporate Diwali event? The decor, the view and the fashion!

You might remember the photo here from my Instagram post about the event (and if you’re not following us, you should be!) but the view from Liberty House Restaurant is simply breathtaking.

You truly have to see this to believe it!

The Decor

The tradition of Diwali focuses on the LIGHT and the decor did not deter from this either! Bright reds, oranges and pinks lit up the room and added to the overall joyful ambiance of the event. My favorite part? How excited the kids were! Kids really make you remember what’s important and with a special reading for the children, this event helped foster a sense of childhood joy that we all need as we enter the holiday season.

Celebrating Success in the Community

What I loved most about The Corporate Diwali events? How Manisha and her team focused on highlighting others in the room. Several women were honored for their achievements in their fields and in the communities they serve — something I am always happy to get behind!

A New Tradition

The Corporate Diwali aims to bring the tradition of Diwali to all — no matter where you come from or what your ethnic background includes. This celebration of light and joy is one for all and with The Corporate Diwali, it can truly be something that lasts a lifetime. I’ll be making this part of my annual tradition in Hudson County and hope you will too!
